We talk to Jimmie Karlsson, part of the hot, luxury design duo, Jimmie Martin, about life with his two cats River Phoenix and Christy Turlington.
What are you up to?
We recently designed the chair that Madonna used for her half-time performance at the Superbowl. We are also collaborating with photographer Terry O’Neill in an exhibition ‘Sleeping with the Stars‘ at the Rook and Raven Gallery from the 20th to the 31st March.
When did you get your two lovely cats?
We got them 12 years ago from Martin’s old boss.
Where do you live?
I live with my partner Rick in Notting Hill. But we have lived all over London including Muswell Hill, Shoreditch and Tufnell Park. We are like gypsies we like moving around and the cats don’t seem to mind either. They seem to like Notting Hill best.
What do you love about your cats?
They are like babies. Like my children. They give me a lovely welcome when I come home from work. They are wonderful company they climb all over me when I am sitting on the sofa and cuddle up on the bed at night. If I move in bed I always feel guilty in case I have woken them up. I sleep better when I am with the cats.
Are they friendly?
They love it when people come over. They are very friendly to our guests. They sit on people’s laps even the ones who don’t like them!
