This holiday cottage is spacious, yet intimate, and commands beautiful views of the countryside surrounding the peaceful village of Sheldon, only 3 miles from the market town of Bakewell. The oldest part of the cottage dates from 1800 and has been converted skilfully into a living room with tasteful furnishings, original beams, exposed stone walls and a large fireplace with a multi-fuel burner. There is a large dining area adjacent to the living room and a kitchen which leads into a south-facing conservatory, ideal for breakfast and relaxing. There is a downstairs toilet and utility area. Upstairs has three large double bedrooms (two with en-suite showers) and a bathroom. One of the bedrooms has a 6ft zip and link bed which can be used as a double bed or two single beds. The cottage has Sky TV and wi-fi internet access. Only a few steps from the main cottage is a games room and studio apartment. The large, heated games room has a pool table and table tennis table as well as a drying room for wet clothes and boots. Above the games room is the studio with sitting room and a double bedroom with en-suite. The sitting room has a sofa bed (for alternative sleeping only) and a TV. The cottage stands in an enclosed garden which has driveway parking for four vehicles, flower beds and two lawns. The larger lawn overlooks the nearby fields and hills, and is ideal for ball games. It adjoins a stone-flagged patio area with a built-in barbecue and outside table and chairs. Sheldon has a pub close to the cottage which is friendly and provides good food. The village is within easy reach of Bakewell and Ashford-on-the-Water, and is an excellent starting point for walking, exploring the countryside and visiting Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, The Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath, the caves around Castleton and many other attractions in the Peak District. From the winding front path, a circular boot room reveals the entrance hall with a cosy reading corner and stairs to the first floor. To the left of the hall is an attractive beamed sitting room where deep, comfortable sofas, low level lighting, large Smart TV and an open fireplace create a relaxed, welcoming ambience. Across the hall, the long living room has a sofa and leads to the spacious kitchen at the far end of the house. With a huge island breakfast bar, triple electric Aga, an upholstered pew bench and doors to the garden, it is a fabulous space to find inspiration for a dinner party. A convenient utility room lies to the side, and set off the sitting room at the centre of the house, the orangery has a long dining table and corner sofas facing out into the garden through French doors. A lovely spot for canapés, with the evening sun casting its dappled light through the trees.
Upstairs on the first floor are four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a study. The vast triple-aspect master features a striking four-poster, kingsize bed and garden views, and the second bedroom has a double bed with dressing area. Bedrooms three and four have zip and link beds that can be set up as doubles on request. On the second floor is a hidden delight tucked out of the way from the main social areas: a TV/games den complete with bean bags. The perfect hideaway for the kids to enjoy their own private holiday space.
Outside, to the front of the house is a car port with table tennis, and a lawn with bistro table. To the rear, a huge patio with dining and lounge furniture leads out to extensive, securely enclosed gardens fringed with mature trees and shrubs. A magnificent home with space for all the family plus one dog to roam, play and relax, this inviting home is perfect for extended families and small, responsible groups.
North Hurst sits on the edge of the quiet, leafy village of West Chiltington Common which lies in the lea of the South Downs. A traditional village pub is just a 5-minute walk away, and just opposite is a micro brewery. A mile up the road, West Chiltington is a hidden treasure, full of charming cottages, winding lanes and friendly shops and pubs. It offers a quiet charm and a 12th-century church, and like many Sussex villages provides a tranquil retreat only 50 miles south of London.
The area sits in the heartland of the renowned Sussex wine region, with the famous Nyetimber Vineyard just a couple of miles up the road. Also nearby are Nutbourne and Ambriel, along with Upperton, Stopham and Kinsbrook. The South Downs National Park is a mile from the village, West Chiltington Common being about half way along its entire length and not too far from Chanctonbury Ring. The Wildbrooks at nearby Pulborough offers many excellent walks along the banks of the River Arun, and uninterrupted views south towards the Downs. Three miles south in the direction of Storrington at the foot of the South Downs, Parham House is a magnificent Elizabethan home. To the west is Petworth House and deer park, landscaped by Capability Brown. Petworth itself is full of quaint houses and cottages, antique shops and tearooms. Close by is the West Sussex Golf Club with golf courses at Goodwood and Cowdray. North Hurst makes a great base to enjoy any of these as it is within a 30-minute drive of them all.

This area is well regarded as Essex’s ‘best kept secret’, with the popular coastal towns of Brightlingsea, Wivenhoe, Mersea, Clacton, Frinton and Walton-on-the-Naze, all within half an hour’s drive. There is a foot ferry (summer months) to Mersea Island to Brightlingsea to enjoy the promenade, lido and fish and chips. The town of Colchester is close by, famous for its cobbled streets, castle and world renowned zoo, with a wide variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. Further afield are Ipswich, Chelmsford and Felixstowe. Many picturesque villages and the Constable Country are close by - Dedham, Flatford Mill and Manningtree within ½ hour and, Nayland, Lavenham and Long Melford to name but a few. Other local pastimes include golf.

Madison is a lovely Swedish designed, detached holiday property situated not far from the beach and benefiting from being just under 8 miles from the popular seaside town of Bude. The property can comfortably accommodate eight guests with all rooms on one level.
There are three bedrooms; one with a super kingsize bed, Smart TV and a lovely en-suite with a multi spray unit, double walk-in shower plus a bath and the other two both being twins (one with a handy sink in it). There’s also a family shower room, again with double walk-in shower. The living space consists of a comfortable living area with Smart TV, a separate dining room with a double sofa bed and a conservatory with seating, a telescope and access to the rear garden and patio. Outside is a large rear garden consisting of trees, lawn and a patio with a big dining table, perfect for outdoor family gatherings. Children will love running in and out of the trees and bushes and hidden away is a quiet sun lounging area. To the front of the property is an additional garden area and parking for up to five cars on the driveway. Then there’s the games rooms which can be accessed via the side of the building, where you will find table tennis, air hockey, darts, table football, a games console, a TV and even a toilet.
If it’s the beach life you’re looking for then you’ll be spoiled for choice with the nearest beach being just 3 miles away. Much of the coastline in this area is owned by the National Trust and is a haven for wildlife, providing fabulous walking opportunities. There are many pretty coves and inlets to discover within a short drive including Crackington Haven, Boscastle, Morwenstow and stunning Tintagel, inextricably linked to the legend of King Arthur. Further afield the fishing port of Padstow is a popular tourist destination. Bude is a fabulous coastal town and has something for everyone including great beaches, rockpools and cafés to watch it all from. The rolling waves are great for surfing all year round and the footpaths by the restored canal or on the Southwest Coast Path offer you a superb opportunity to explore the outstanding countryside. Bude also has a superb golf course, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley/indoor play area and a heritage centre at Bude Castle.
Madison is also perfectly located for you to discover the many natural delights that North Devon has to offer such as Exmoor National Park with its magical night skies in Europe’s first ‘Dark Sky Reserve’, the many rugged coastal towns and quaint villages such as Hartland, Lynton & Lynmouth, Ilfracombe and the world-famous Clovelly Village. There are plenty of family-oriented places to visit including Exmoor Zoo, Milky Way Adventure Park, The Big Sheep farm-themed park and many others.

The house lends itself to families, couples, friends, ramblers, dog walkers, cyclists or shoppers! Canterbury has so much to offer from the world-famous cathedral steeped in fascinating historical references, city walls and other beautiful architecture, to the busy city centre shopping precinct set across a variety of cobbled streets and modern newly built outlets to peruse including the city’s very first roof top restaurant. For dining out, you can pretty much find every type of food from across the world and a large selection of boutique shops, which can be found on the street running parallel to the high street. There is also a large choice of traditional pubs dating back hundreds of years, bars and cafés too. Guest feedback is that the property is a ’home from home, where they instantly feel relaxed, is in an excellent location and provides a very central base for exploring the wider surrounding areas of Dover, Sandwich, Whitstable and Folkstone.
The property was decorated throughout in 2022 and is equipped with everything you could imagine making for a perfect holiday. The south west facing garden is a very good size, patio furniture, and a shady area to enjoy your morning coffee is provided along with barbecue, a few garden toys and fire pit. Close by lies the unspoilt and sought-after resort of Southwold, with its pier and much-photographed beach huts.; or for a change of pace, enjoy all the fun of the fair or walk along the Golden Mile at Great Yarmouth, which boasts traditional seaside attractions too numerous to mention.
Families should make time for a trip to Pleasurewood Hills, the only theme park in East Anglia, and those looking for a quieter time will find the Norfolk Broads National Park a great choice, the southern gateway of which lies in Oulton Broad, just a short drive away. Shoppers should head to the medieval city of Norwich, which was voted one of the top ten shopping locations in the UK. Here you will also find a splendid Norman castle and a host of museums and galleries, all of which make this city a great day out, reached either by car or the nearby railway line.

After a day out exploring and having worked up a great appetite, you will be delighted to find that there are not only lots of great places to eat close to Kirkley Cliff, but lots of delivery options for when you are too tired to cook or venture out. Town Mills is a historic, Grade II listed former Mill and Manor House situated on the banks of the River Torridge on the outskirts of Great Torrington in North Devon. Built by Lord Rolle in 1823 and made famous as ‘Tarka’s Mill’ in Henry Williamson’s book ‘Tarka The Otter’, Town Mills started life as a Grain Mill and a Saw Mill, both mills being powered by waterwheels. Now, almost 200 years later, Town Mills has been sympathetically converted into seven well-appointed holiday cottages all with their own charm and personality.

Riverside is one of the most popular cottages at Town Mills, partly because of its location and private veranda overlooking the river. This charming two-storey cottage originally formed part of the stable blocks almost 200 years ago. It is a good-sized four-bedroom property. On the ground floor there is a double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, and a twin bedroom. Both of these bedrooms have French windows offering easy access to the veranda. With nobody to overlook you, waking up to the views of the river and countryside is a great way to start the day. The main bathroom is also downstairs, and has an over-bath shower, plus toilet and wash basin. Two further twin rooms are located upstairs. A selection of outdoor furniture on the veranda provides the ideal setting for enjoying a little al-fresco dining whilst looking at the local wildlife. You may spot an otter if you’re lucky.
On-site, there is a indoor shared swimming pool which is kept warm between 31-32 degrees, so is suitable for even the smallest guests. The owners offer the opportunity to reserve the pool for your exclusive use, allowing you the chance for a session of family fun, or a quiet moment to relax. There is a games room with a free pool table and a classic table football, along with a dart board and fruit machine. Located by the riverside, but securely fenced, the children’s play area offers picnic bench seating with swings, slide and climbing frame, as well as an elevated playhouse, its the ideal spot to spend a lazy afternoon with a picnic whilst trying to spot an otter or some of the other many local wildlife visitors. For younger guests, there is a kids hideaway where they can escape to. On the opposite side of the Mill there is a garden where you can enjoy a few moments, maybe have a picnic or watch the peacocks as they wander around.
The countryside around Town Mills is dotted with sleepy villages nestled among the hills, while extensive woodlands, traversed by many footpaths, offer the chance to experience the area’s natural beauty. Local attractions include the renowned RHS gardens at Rosemoor (adjacent) and Dartington Crystal, offering a factory tour and visitor centre. Great Torrington is only a mile away with good shopping and amenities, and there is golf at nearby Hartland. Town Mills adjoins Torrington Common which extends to 365 acres, incorporating 20 miles of footpaths. The common is a haven for wildlife. The ‘Big Sheep’ and ‘Milky Way’ theme parks are each less than 10 miles away.
The River Torridge runs downstream to the ancient port of Bideford, still with a working quay offering boat trips to Lundy Island. Just around the corner is the attractive little town of Appledore with its colourful houses and narrow streets. To either side lies Devon’s most spectacular stretch of coastal scenery – a chain of magnificent cliffs and rocky promontories, interspersed here and there by long flat sandy beaches, where the Atlantic breakers roll in to create ideal surfing conditions. There are splendid beaches at Instow and Westward Ho!, the latter bordered by the Royal North Devon Golf Club, and the Northam Nature Reserve. Further west is the supremely picturesque Clovelly, with narrow, cobbled main street descending at a dizzying gradient to the little harbour below. The cathedral city of Exeter can be reached via a delightful drive through lush river valleys.
