If guests plan to bring a second vehicle or have visitors then the only option for this is the public car park, which is 220 yards away by foot and which costs £6.50 per day per car to park. This car park will become busy during peak periods, and there is no other public parking in the village.
There is a small, pretty harbour close by with a view northward along the rocky shore to the spectacular ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. Explore the 20 miles of Northumberland Heritage Coastline recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with its walking trails and cycling routes. The welcoming village of Embleton is only 3 miles north with its wide sweep of golden sandy beach which has won the public poll of ‘Beach of the Year’ in the 2017 BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards. Beadnell Bay is a further 4 miles north and a popular destination for water-sports enthusiasts, including sailing, sea kayaking, wind surfing and scuba diving. Two miles further up the coastline is the traditional fishing port of Seahouses, where boat trips to the nearby Farne Islands, famous for its bird sanctuaries and seal colony, depart regularly from its harbour. The picture perfect village of Bamburgh, snuggled in the shadow of its majestic castle is a further 3 miles north. A 15-minute drive away is also the lovely town of Ilkley and its famous Ilkley Moor and delightful parks with walks along the River Wharfe and famous local tea rooms. For a more relaxing way to explore the area, hop on the Worth Valley Steam Train from Keighley Station, which takes you on a 5-mile journey through the Haworth moors and on to Oxenhope along the line where the Railway Children was filmed.
