Set on the edge of Abergynolwyn, a village that lies in the shadows of Cader Idris and situated between the popular seaside resort of Tywyn and market town Dolgellau, this beautiful detached barn conversion provides spacious accommodation, ideal for families wishing to enjoy the peace and tranquillity. Tywyn is surrounded by the Tarren Hills, and holds the 7-mile long Talyllyn Narrow Gauge Steam Railway that runs between Tywyn Wharf and Nant Gwernol. Nearby Tal-y-llyn lake and Talyllyn steam railway are always popular with visitors, as are the sandy beaches along Cardigan Bay. Some visitor attractions include the Centre for Alternative Technology, King Arthur’s Labyrinth, Animalarium, Coed-y-Brenin Forest and Portmeirion Italianate village. Other places to visit are Birds Rock, Castell y Bere, Dolgoch Falls Walk, Aberdovey, Corris slate mines and craft centres. The location is also great for easy access into Snowdonia. Ty Hir is located close to the beautiful Mawddach Estuary with its coastal trail and cycle path. There is direct access from the farm leading down to the golden sands of Fairbourne beach, great for families with small children or across the Victorian bridge to Barmouth. If you wish you can just relax, enjoy a spot of fishing nearby, or for the more energetic you can enjoy family walks in the idyllic scenery, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Snowdonia National Park. The family-run pony trekking and equestrian centre on-site is just on the north side of the farm, away from our holiday cottages with menage Hire (arena), riders or complete beginners are catered for. This lovely, detached farmhouse sits in rolling countryside within the beautiful Snowdonia National Park just outside the little hamlet of Rhyduchaf and is two miles from the historic market town of Bala. The farmhouse offers four good sized bedrooms and there is plenty of space to relax. There is a pleasant yard where guests can relax with a glass of wine or it makes a great place to dine al fresco.
Bala offers a choice of places to eat out with plenty of cafés and eateries for you to choose from. You can walk straight from the door or hop in the car to explore the area. The National White Water Centre is close by, where you can experience the thrill of rafting or canyoning, whilst more sedate activities may be found on the shores of Bala Lake which is close by. Take a trip on a steam train on the narrow gauge railway along the lake shore between Bala and Llanuwchllyn, have a day at the beach over on the coast at Barmouth, or try some Welsh foodie delights at the award-winning Rhug Estate Organic Farm Shop at Corwen. Further afield in Blaenau Ffestiniog is the incredible Bounce Below where the whole family can try bouncing on trampoline nets deep underground in an old slate cavern, and Zip World, the largest zip wire zone in the world where you can fly high over the quarries whilst enjoying the spectacular view as you try not to scream! In a unique rural location, accessed by its own private track across rolling green fields, this renovated, detached, former farmhouse was once part of the nearby Glynllifon country estate. Set in quiet, tranquil countryside surrounded by rolling green, tree-studded farmland, it enjoys fabulous views to the rear of the Snowdonia Mountains, and to the front there are far reaching views across to Anglesey and the Lleyn Peninsula. In fact, on a clear day you can see the ferries leaving the port of Holyhead on their journey across the Irish sea to Dublin!
This really is a superb spot for exploring this amazing part of North Wales, where you can enjoy both spectacular mountain scenery and the most amazing beaches, along with a host of family attractions. It really does make a fantastic base from which to explore the Snowdonia National Park whatever time of year, with its cosy wood burner and wonderful hot tub.
The many attractions of this area include a narrow gauge steam railway, which winds its way from historic Caernarfon into the heart of the Snowdonia Mountains, and a small airfield for pleasure flights over the area. Caernarfon, with its magnificent castle, is within easy reach and also offers a fine selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, along with golf, bike hire and sailing. Beach 4½ miles. This is a charming, unspoilt part of beautiful North Wales is a region rich in outdoor action and adventure, from the world’s first inland surfing lagoon-Surf Snowdonia, zip wires at Zip World, high ropes, and cavern trampolines, to the many forest walks, mountain bike trails, hills, lakes and rivers for which the area is rightly famous for. People travel from all over Europe to have a go on Zip World - booking is vital. Join scenic footpaths straight from your doorstep, go onwards and upwards from the cottage and you’ll come to two lovely, little-visited lakes, Llyn Geirionydd and Llyn Crafnant. Trefriw has a vibrant heart, so expect a friendly welcome at the post office/shop, the award-winning butchers, the fantastic working woollen mill, in the two pubs, and in the brasserie and local café. Trefriw is blessed with two of the most spectacular lakes (Geirionydd and Crafnant). Both lakes lie in the most stunning surroundings and offer different facilities. Geirionydd offers watersports for everyone (paddle and powerboating) whilst Crafnant is a much more peaceful environment. The community lead project Trefriw Trails has 8 waymarked trails which are suited to all ages and abilities for walking and cycling.

Inside Gwel Yr Haul, you’ll find the holiday home has been furnished in a contemporary, minimalist style, with an upside-down layout to take full advantage of the panoramic views from the upstairs rooms. Upstairs the living spaces are open plan, creating a laid-back feel and are fronted by three patio doors which open out onto the balcony so you can fully indulge in the view. There’s a modern kitchen next to the dining/living area with deep, comfy sofas and a cosy gas fire, perfect for relaxing evenings in front of a film or some downtime with a good book. The dining table is positioned in a light-filled spot right in front of the patio doors, a great place to start the day with a delicious breakfast. In addition, there is a cosy snug with a stylish high-backed chair and a selection of books and Xbox one, great for the kids. There are three bedrooms, all on the ground floor sleeping up to eight guests. The master bedroom features a super kingsize bed, with extra single bed and pull-out bed for flexible sleeping, this bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with shower over bath. And the other two are just as comfortable with zip and link super kingsize or twins, as well as a shower room and family bathroom. Step outside into the pretty courtyard and you’ll find more dining space for barbecuing on sunny days, there’s also a handy wetsuit drying area for those who’ve braved a dip in the sea. In the evenings, gather around the table and chairs on the balcony for an after-dinner drink as the sun sets.
The house is located minutes away from Barmouth, when the tide is in you can walk on the promenade, it takes around 20-30 minutes. Wander through town, stopping off at shops and cafés along the way or to one of the restaurants for dinner. Barmouth beach is 100 yards away, accessible by footpath from the house, over a pedestrian railway crossing, the beach varies from vast sandy expanses to pebbles and lovely sand dunes.
