Set on the edge of Abergynolwyn, a village that lies in the shadows of Cader Idris and situated between the popular seaside resort of Tywyn and market town Dolgellau, this beautiful detached barn conversion provides spacious accommodation, ideal for families wishing to enjoy the peace and tranquillity. Tywyn is surrounded by the Tarren Hills, and holds the 7-mile long Talyllyn Narrow Gauge Steam Railway that runs between Tywyn Wharf and Nant Gwernol. Nearby Tal-y-llyn lake and Talyllyn steam railway are always popular with visitors, as are the sandy beaches along Cardigan Bay. Some visitor attractions include the Centre for Alternative Technology, King Arthur’s Labyrinth, Animalarium, Coed-y-Brenin Forest and Portmeirion Italianate village. Other places to visit are Birds Rock, Castell y Bere, Dolgoch Falls Walk, Aberdovey, Corris slate mines and craft centres. The location is also great for easy access into Snowdonia. The property is in an excellent location with the walks of Snowdon on the doorstep, including Llanberis Path, the easiest and longest route, The Miners’ Track, Snowdon Ranger Path and the Watkin Path. Capel Curig nestles in the foothills of Moel Siabod, Y Glyderau and Y Carneddau, endorsing the majestic view of the Snowdon horseshoe. Afon Llygwy flows through the village, making its way down to Betws-y-Coed, a nearby village where forests, lakes and mountains combine to produce a stunning landscape. Coffee shops, craft houses, a miniature steam railway and a number of good eating houses are located in the centre of Betws-y-Coed village.

Day trips to consider would be Bodnant Gardens, set in one of North Wales’ most famous estates, or Conway, with its castle walls, marina, selection of shops and delicatessens, not forgetting the smallest house in the UK according to the Guinness Book of Records. Llangollen in the opposite direction is a pleasant Welsh town with its horse-drawn canal boats, light railway, Dr Who experience, and world famous festivals such as the annual Eisteddfod. Beddgelert is a short drive and is good for walkers or children wishing to visit Gelert’s Grave. Most areas of the Lleyn Peninsula are within an hour’s drive, where good beaches and watersports can be found. Portmeirion village is also great for a day trip with its exotic plants and Italianate buildings. Fishing and golf are available within 5 miles. Shop 1 mile, pub ¼ mile.

Inside Gwel Yr Haul, you’ll find the holiday home has been furnished in a contemporary, minimalist style, with an upside-down layout to take full advantage of the panoramic views from the upstairs rooms. Upstairs the living spaces are open plan, creating a laid-back feel and are fronted by three patio doors which open out onto the balcony so you can fully indulge in the view. There’s a modern kitchen next to the dining/living area with deep, comfy sofas and a cosy gas fire, perfect for relaxing evenings in front of a film or some downtime with a good book. The dining table is positioned in a light-filled spot right in front of the patio doors, a great place to start the day with a delicious breakfast. In addition, there is a cosy snug with a stylish high-backed chair and a selection of books and Xbox one, great for the kids. There are three bedrooms, all on the ground floor sleeping up to eight guests. The master bedroom features a super kingsize bed, with extra single bed and pull-out bed for flexible sleeping, this bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with shower over bath. And the other two are just as comfortable with zip and link super kingsize or twins, as well as a shower room and family bathroom. Step outside into the pretty courtyard and you’ll find more dining space for barbecuing on sunny days, there’s also a handy wetsuit drying area for those who’ve braved a dip in the sea. In the evenings, gather around the table and chairs on the balcony for an after-dinner drink as the sun sets.
The house is located minutes away from Barmouth, when the tide is in you can walk on the promenade, it takes around 20-30 minutes. Wander through town, stopping off at shops and cafés along the way or to one of the restaurants for dinner. Barmouth beach is 100 yards away, accessible by footpath from the house, over a pedestrian railway crossing, the beach varies from vast sandy expanses to pebbles and lovely sand dunes. Tregarth is a traditional Welsh village, originating from the slate mining industry of times gone by, now a friendly village with a traditional welcoming pub. You’ll be positioned perfectly to explore the captivating island of Anglesey which is only a short drive, along with the Snowdonia National Park, which has many walking routes up Mount Snowdon. Only 3 miles away is the action packed Zipworld Penrhyn Quarry with a plethora of activities, along with cafés serving quality food. Also nearby is Penrhyn Castle, a National Trust castle, well worth a visit for all ages. An iconic feature of the town is Barmouth Bridge, over 150-year-old railway viaduct across the Mawddach Estuary. It is half a mile in length with a wooden promenade suitable for pedestrians or cyclists which now forms part of the Wales Coast Path and the Lon Las Cymru Cycle Network. Nantcol waterfalls are just 5 miles away and offer a great day out, a perfect place for a family picnic whilst playing in the stream. The village itself is steeped in history and folk lore. Sygun copper mine is just down the road and is well worth a visit for all ages. The area is considered the adventure capital of Wales and there are an abundance of opportunities for climbing, hiking, walking, cycling and water sports available. You can also ride a steam train on the Welsh Highland Railway to Caernarfon and nearby Porthmadog.
